The search is on for the best in commercial holography with entries now open for the 2022 Excellence in Holography Awards.
The awards, which recognise advancement and technical achievement in commercial holography, are organised by global trade body International Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA). This year, they will be presented during the Holography Conference, which takes place online 5-6 December.
Involving delegates from hologram suppliers, manufacturers and users around the world worldwide, the awards recognise outstanding achievement and mark those who have been at the forefront of some of the most significant sector developments around the world in recent times.
They reflect innovative or commercially viable hologram products or techniques which have been introduced or launched in the last 12 months. Any company or individual is eligible to enter and the award categories cover innovations for the best in Holographic Technology, Origination, Display or Emerging Technology Applications, Applied Security, and Decorative/Packaging Products.
The closing date for entries this year is 31 October 2022 and commercial projects produced after 1 August 2020 will be covered. The entries will be judged by a panel of experts in authentication and design, including the IHMA Board.
In addition to these categories, participants in the Holography Conference will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite during the event, resulting in an additional award – the People’s Choice.
Chair of the IHMA, Dr Paul Dunn, said: “The awards celebrate the best in holographic achievement and the remarkable innovations the industry produces annually. Design excellence, creativity and technical skill will be to fore in this year’s crop of entries, reinforcing holography’s continued success and development as one of the most effective, reliable and adaptable authentication and security devices and packaging enhancement solutions.”
Those involved in a hologram project can enter while others can nominate holographic projects for an award if they provide details of the user or producer of the hologram. Cut out counterfeit attempts? Reid Fruits and Laava show it’s possible
Over three years, Reid Fruits drastically reduced the number of counterfeit attempts on their premium Tasmanian cherries, sold in Asian export markets where the brand was in high demand and had a strong reputation that was at risk from inferior products sold under fake Reid Fruits branding.
In the 2019-20 season, in a bid to fight the fakes, Reid Fruits introduced Laava Smart Fingerprints® on its cherry boxes bound for 20 export markets. The result: only 10 counterfeit attempts, all of which were automatically stopped by the Laava platform.
