EFPIA uploads coding project video

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) has uploaded a video explaining the main features of its medicine serialisation project in Sweden and reiterating calls for a unified coding scheme applicable across Europe.

In the video, Brian Ager, director general of EFPIA, explains that the driver for the project was patient safety. "We became very concerned about the growing number of counterfeits entering the normal supply chain in Europe and we felt we had to take some responsibility in playing our part to address this."

Andrew Bonser, director of government affairs at Pfizer Inc, says the system is in line with what is emerging from the deliberations on the forthcoming EU directive on falsified medicines, but the challenge now is to make the concept compatible with the different regulatory and healthcare systems across the EU member states.
