Cincinnati CBP seizes over $407,000 of unapproved meds

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has revealed details of a seizure carried out by officers in late October that seized high-risk, FDA-regulated ophthalmology products and misbranded prescription medicines.

The haul, intercepted in Cincinnati, included orthopaedic injections, rheumatology infusions, cosmetic devices, and cancer drugs that were en route to various locations across the US.

Working with the FDA, CBP seized a total of 398 shipments containing a total of 8,521 pairs of undeclared or mis-declared contact lenses. Officers also seized 50 other shipments containing misbranded or mis-declared FDA-regulated drugs or medical devices, such as GLP-1 agonist medications, Botox, dermal fillers, skin care products, and several other FDA-prohibited substances and powders.

The cumulative manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the prohibited pharmaceuticals was $407,784 had they been legally imported.
