Brief: UK connects to Europe’s medicines verification hub

The UK national medicines verification system (NMVO) is now connected to the centralised EU hub, setting it on course to implement the safety feature provisions of the Falsified Medicines Directive.

The milestone was announced by Jerome Bertin, general manager of SecurMed UK, the organisation that is charged with operating the UK system, in a letter to stakeholders.

“The next phase of the project will focus on registration and enabling end-users within the UK to connect to the national system in readiness for FMD regulatory go-live on February 9, 2019,” said Bertin.

“With this major step forward…Marketing Authorisation Holders can now start uploading pack data for the UK to the EU Hub,” he added. “The upload of data for packs that are already in circulation within the market is extremely important, with a view to maximising efficiency within the system and minimising false positive alerts.”
