Cameroon busts counterfeit soft drink operation

Authorities in Yaoundé, Cameroon, have detained two people suspected of involvement in the manufacturing of counterfeit soft drinks, including brands from Coca-Cola and Top Drinks.

The fake beverages, which were made without the manufacturing standards that would be deployed by the brand owners, posed significant risks to public health and consumer safety, according to a report in the Cameroon Concord news service. The drinks are unlikely to be subject to any quality control and could put consumers at risk of exposure to toxic compounds and materials contaminated with micro-organisms.
