Kenyan police arrest women accused of copper theft

Police investigating the widespread theft of metal and wiring from electricity towers and sub-stations in the vicinity of capital Nairobi have arrested a Chinese national suspected to involved in illicit trading of the stolen material.

A raid on Jinxin Commercial Ltd – a scrap metal business in the town of Athi River outside Nairobi - found 105 kg of copper and aluminium believed to be stolen from the electricity infrastucture in Athi River and Mumias, according to Citizen TV Kenya.

Police said the female suspect and accomplices were involved in the export of 10 tonnes of copper worth KSH 8m (around $60,000) to an unknown destination earlier in May.
