Fake alloy car wheels intercepted in Puerto Rico

Customs officers in San Juan have seized a shipment of 844 counterfeit alloy car wheels imported into Puerto Rico.

The estimated manufacturer suggested retail price of all the counterfeit products seized is approximately $238,000, had the goods been genuine, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which says they pose “a significant safety problem for drivers.”

Citing automotive industry findings, the agency says that fake wheel rims often do not pass the industry safety standards. For example, when tested, the fake wheels could not pass safety testing on potholes.
