Crane Authentication debuts with new brand identity

Following its takeover of De La Rue's authentication business for £300m (around $401m) last week, industrial technology group Crane NXT has formally launched a new business unit and revealed its branding (see above).

Crane Authentication – which combines the De La Rue business with Crane NXT's earlier purchase OpSec Security, bought last year for $270m – will support government and business customers with "the broadest range of technologies, solutions and services for authentication, online protection, tax revenue and identity requirements, commented Sam Keayes, head of security and authentication technologies.

For business, Crane Authentication will focus its efforts on online and physician protection of their products for activities like traceability, counterfeiting and diversion, while targeting public security, safeguarding citizen identities, and protecting tax revenues for government clients.

Its range encompasses optical, print and digital technologies for physical products, data-driven brand protection and intelligence based on artificial intelligence and big data, and technologies to enhance document security and prevent fraud, with a direct presence in a dozen countries worldwide.

"Our customers trust us to help them address their many opportunities and challenges," commented Richard Cremona, who has been named president of Crane Authentication. "These range from the rapid digitisation of commerce and the spread of AI-enabled decision-making to the growth compliance needs and the need for governments to collect tax revenue."

Crane NXT recorded sales of nearly $111m from security and authentication technologies last year, while the De La Rue authentication division posted annual revenues of around £100m.
