Cashmere lawsuit against Etsy dropped

The Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute (CCMI) has resolved its false advertising and unfair competition action against online retailer Etsy, dropping the lawsuit.

The legal action, filed in a US federal court on December 30, had challenged the advertising and sale of purported "100 per cent cashmere" and "cashmere" garments on Etsy websites in the US and abroad that CCMI had tested and found to be 100 per cent acrylic, polyester, and other synthetic blends.

CCMI president Fabio Garzena said the two parties "look forward to collaborating to protect the interests of cashmere customers, manufacturers, and sellers." The trade organisation resolved a similar complaint brought against Amazon and garment supplier CS Accessories in 2021.
