Document Security Systems, Inc., a leader in anti-counterfeit, authentication, and diversion protection technologies, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Zappar, Ltd., an award-winning developer of Augmented Reality (“AR”) and interactive delivery experiences.
The partnership engages two industry-leading companies whose combined technologies offer an innovative and unique solution to massively expand the ways consumers interact with brands to create new experiences and build connections while providing more data from which businesses can accelerate topline sales growth and protect the bottom line.
Zappar’s AR technologies can turn almost anything (print, POS, product, packaging, place) into an interactive delivery channel serving video, animation, games, competitions, additional information, data capture mechanics, social shares and more. In February 2019, Zappar was selected as one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Businesses in the AR/VR industry as part of the annual ‘World’s Most Innovative Company’ awards, curated by Fast Company magazine.
DSS and Zappar will use the integration of proprietary secure marking and augmented reality to turn product packaging into an innovative virtual platform of engagement, discovery and product safety.
“We are very excited to be working with Zappar and its AR development team. With Zappar’s technology, packaging is a launch pad for a completely new owned media channel, always on, and controlled by the brand. Product fraud is undermining brand trust and putting customers at risk. DSS’ technology curbs product fraud while protecting customers and creating a great interactive AR experience,” stated Mike Tobin, DSS’ VP of Sales, Marketing, and Product Management. “In partnership, through the mobile phone camera, we can create powerful new experiences for brands and their customers that inform and delight but also protect. In addition, our combined offering generates a large amount of data for brands so they can learn more about customers, as well as the state of the product in the field. The combination of the physical with the digital is emerging as the new standard so brands can create engaging new experiences while fighting rampant fraud, all delivered over your mobile device,” added Tobin.
“We’re delighted to be bringing this class-leading collaboration to the market. CPG brands the world over are waking up to the huge opportunity that connected packaging offers as their greatest owned media resource to continue a direct dialogue with their users. We’re on the cusp of an era when augmented reality can take its place among the communications channels businesses and people regularly use,” stated Caspar Thykier, co-founder & CEO of Zappar. “DSS’s powerful anti-counterfeit protection capabilities add another important layer to this story delivering greater consumer confidence in the products they purchase at a time when provenance, authenticity, and brand trust are at a premium whilst also combatting grey market goods. The potential impact to the top and bottom line for brand owners is direct, measurable and sizeable,” added Thykier.
Zappar technology was created at the world-famous University of Cambridge in England and their tech team has been developing the algorithms and platform that powers Zappar for over 6 years. Zappar adds a new visual dimension to the world seen through your device as a digital discovery channel and has created augmented, virtual, and mixed-reality experiences for brands including 7-Eleven, Warner Bros., Rovio, Nestle, Unilever, and Hasbro.
