Video review reveals fake cellphone battery scams

An informative YouTube video from an amateur reviewer gives valuable insight into the tactics deployed by sellers of illicit Apple and Samsung cellphone batteries.

Among the tricks described was passing off lower power batteries as high capacity and of course blatant counterfeiting of the look and feel of OEM (original equipment manufacture) units. For example in the case of the Samsung S4 and S5, the fakes can be spotted by peeling off the sticker on the battery and seeing the colour of the battery underneath.

The tips are timely given the recent report of a Samsung Galaxy S4 catching fire under the pillow of an unfortunate child in Texas though thankfully she was unscathed.
