UAE seizes $7.1m-worth of fake Toyota parts in 2019

United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities say they have seized and destroyed Dh26m ($7.1m) worth of counterfeit Toyota spare parts this year.

The haul, netted during raids carried out across the metropolitan areas of Dubai and Sharjah, included oil filters and brake pads that could put lives at risk as well as affecting vehicle longevity and reliability.

The raids were carried out in cooperation with Al-Futtaim Motors, the exclusive Toyota distributor in the UAE, and found 34,000 counterfeit oil filters and 6,000 fake brake pads made out of dried grass or asbestos.
