Dangerous fake Dyson Airwrap hair styler found on eBay

UK Trading Standards has warned of a counterfeit version of Dyson's popular Airwrap hair styling product that could pose "a serious risk of electric shock."

Genuine versions of the appliance retail for around £400 in the UK, but the counterfeits were being sold by eBay user nana_6036 for £339 – only a modest discount to the legitimate product.

Purchasers would have received a device with inadequate internal wiring – with insufficient creepage and clearance distances – that could lead to wiring failure and lead to the product becoming live.

Aside from the risk of shock, wiring failure could also raise the risk of fire, says Trading Standard, which advises anyone with the knock-off to stop using it immediately and contact the distributor for redress.

The specific product sold by nana_6036 – a Chinese seller whose account has been cancelled – was listed as "Dyson Airwrap Complete Hair Styler Gift Edition Copper Gold." A look at the feedback for the account reveals hundreds of reviews for Dyson and Apple products.
