Alibaba launches offline counterfeit reporting via Alipay

Alibaba has launched an online channel that can be used by consumers to report suspect counterfeit goods or fake shops offline.

Consumers were only able to report fake products they found on the company's online shopping platforms, such as Taobao, but the new reporting channel means users can also provide evidence of issues at real shops, reports AsiaOne.

When goods sold in a shopping mall are suspected as counterfeit, the evidence – including pictures and the store's location – can be submitted through a channel on Alipay, the online retailer’s mobile payment application.

Alibaba will then send the evidence to the brand owners and trademark registrants in order to verify whether the reported goods are counterfeit or not.
